Itron History
Itron is founded by a small group of innovative engineers intent on finding more efficient ways to read meters in Hauser Lake, Idaho.
Schlumberger forms the following group of subsidiaries: Flonic (water, heat, gas); Enertec (electricity); and Sereg (industrial control and valves). In 1987, these companies are restructured under Schlumberger Industries into specific market segments: electricity, gas, water, heat and regulation.

The hybrid electromechanical J5S residential meter, a staple of the electricity metering industry, is released to market.
The paperwork is taken out of meter reading operations with Itron's first-generation of portable handheld computers and application software.
Expansion begins into the Asian market. The following year a new manufacturing plant starts operations in Indonesia, PT Mecoindo.
Two new lines of water meters are introduced: Flostar, a single-jet, class C residential meter; and Woltex, a class B, Woltmann-type meter with horizontal helix.
Two companies are acquired in Europe: Allmess Congermania in Germany and Conteuro Rigas in Italy.
The Gallus meter is made simpler and lighter through automation and miniaturization and rebranded the Gallus 2000. With its launch, Schlumberger becomes the world leader in domestic gas meters.
A secure, smart key prepayment meter, the KBA, is released to market.
A new series of Delta rotary meters are launched, including the DN40 and DN100.
Two additional companies are acquired in Europe: Thorn Emi Gas Metering in the U.K. and Bosco Spa in Italy.
Large-scale residential automatic meter reading (AMR) technology is introduced by Itron. This enables utilities to collect natural gas and electricity data remotely via wireless communication.
Electronic residential meters are mass-produced in France and the U.K. (including the A14, A15, SPA, SPB).
Leveraging advancements in electronics, Schlumberger launches the solid-state VECTRON® meter to serve the commercial and industrial market.
A new intelligent gas meter, Dialogas, is introduced.
Two German companies are acquired: Heliowatt and Danyl.
The RF1, 2dm3 residential diaphragm meter is redesigned, and begins production on an automated assembly line.
Water utilities and municipalities worldwide benefit as Itron extends AMR technology to water providers.
The French "Fluxi NM" and German "TZ" merge to become the "Fluxi2000/TZ".
AEG Meters is acquired with production sites in Italy, Germany, Spain, and South Africa.
The Cyble communication protocol is introduced and is installed in all water meters.
Itron acquires UTS, bringing MV-90, an industry-leading metering software application to Itron's software portfolio, to collect, analyze and apply advanced meter data from commercial and industrial energy users.
Flodis, the first, single jet, class C, communicating meter fitted with an extra-dry register is released.
The world's first dual-energy (electricity and gas) prepayment system, Talexus Vendor, is launched. Payment is collected via smart card.
